NIGREDO ALBEDO CITRINITAS RUBEDO

I've been a little busy lately.  This semester I have more classes I actually want to be in than normal, so naturally I'm taking more of an interest in what I'm doing.  I'll be posting projects as I complete them.  In the mean time..

SPOT ON

Givenchy Haute Couture from a few seasons ago.  I always love Riccardo's head to toe prints - a matching pair of tights and shoes is definitely a must.  Gloves and a hat don't hurt, either.

KATIE GALLAGHER S/S 11

I'm not one to post runway coverage - it tends to get redundant and arbitrary - but when I truly love something I am always compelled to share.  While dressing the models prior to the show I had all the time I could ask for to look over each piece in the collection.  Every color was precise and enhanced by the myriad of textures within the look.  It was also interesting to see how naturally the athletic details blended with Katie's aesthetic.

All the shoes were Raphael Young F/W 10.  You know I have to mention them.  I diiiied when I was going over the racks of clothing and saw a different, intricately constructed pair of boots below each look.  I swear we almost had the entire collection in the dressing room, and there were quite a few pairs we didn't even use.  The boots in the last photo were my favorite, but every pair had some unique detail that caught my attention.  I definitely need to get my hands on a pair of his shoes in the future..

QUIIIICK UPDATE

Yesterday I worked backstage at Katie Gallagher.  It was craaazy.  She had a huge selection of F/W 10 Raphael Young shoes, and of course the clothing was amazing, too.  Katie's layering is always pretty intense:  skirts had underskirts, leggings were layered with hot shorts, vests with boleros, etc - it looked effortless, but it was actually very methodical.  Kate Lanphear was styling the collection so I was lucky enough to see how she works and chat with her once we finished dressing the models.

GLAMORAMAAAA

I really want a nice, outrageously colored fur coat someday.  It's definitely one of those things that falls into the tacky end of the fashion spectrum, but seeing color on fur (and leather) is like seeing it with virgin eyes.

I certainly hope colored fur reminds you of Prada F/W 07.. that astro turf green coat was divine.  And now that I think about it, that collection was truly a feast of both texture and color.  Depressing how evanescent fashion is; brilliant collections like that shouldn't just fall into the back of our heads so easily.

A RARE BREED OF ELEGANCE

Cannot get over this jacket by Gaultier.  It has this otherworldly regality to it which brings to mind Princess Amidala and Bjork.  The fur trim on the sleeve is the kind of unexpected detail I adore and always expect from Gaultier.

"Androgynous Pratt student documents his outfits that run the gamut from everyday college kid to flamboyant club kid. Anyone who throws on a pair of Balenciaga platforms or 9" fetish stilettos to cheer himself up is pretty awesome and entertaining in our opinion!"

TOPSHOP INSIDE-OUT BLOG
"Dressing up is what William loves to do most. This young designer from New York doesn’t dress for fashion but just to have fun and enjoy himself like the big kid that he is. Both adorned as a man and woman, his blog isn’t your common “check-out-my-outfit” type blog. It’s a journey into NYC’s crazy nightlife with party outfits straight from the young creative/transvestite scene. Juggling Timberland homemade platforms, tie-dye t-shirts, camo baggy trousers and an orange furry jacket, his looks are absolutely bonkers-awesom, leaving us wanting more everytime. We strongly recommend that you check out his collection too . Made from Japanese anime babe-printed fabric, it’s pretty darn cool."

LYNN & HORST
"I strongly believe in the comeback of Manga and will further explore its use in contemporary art and fashion. Most probably, 'sexualization' will become a core motif. In the first instance, I'd like to draw your attention to the reanimation of Anime by Dripping Lazers."
