DEMONBABY

Blood is the New Black just sent me some of their new tees, and I was super stoked to get this one by Demonbabies.  The wolf on the bottom melts my heart; it has eight eyes.  I mean.. in my book, that's cute.

LIGHT BRIGHT

For whatever reason bleaching my hair over the past two days did not go over well.  I bleached twice and even with plenty of purple shampoo the brassiness on the sides would not go away.  It was beyond terrible; I spent an entire day with my hood up.  The top is okay because it had been lightened already, but the roots were not cooperating at all.  So I did the only thing I know to do and hacked the sides off.  I have some toner, but I'm giving my scalp a few days to forgive me for the abuse before I apply any more peroxide.  In the mean time, I'm happy with the fresh cut.

BASIC BLACK

Over the weekend I finished the leather vest I was working on.  It's a really basic cut with an oversize collar and asymmetrical zip closure.  Nothing too fancy.  I'll be starting a jacket in the next few weeks.

DIVINE TRASH

Last night my friend introduced me to Divine.  I had definitely seen him in Hairspray, but had never actually known who he was.  Apparently he was the inspiration behind Ursula's appearance in the Little Mermaid.  Which is funny.. and offensive at the same time.  Because really, how many effeminate male villains are out there?  A lot.  And then Disney goes and makes the villain a drag queen.  Nice.

GRAND PRIX

Can't remember what mag this was from, but it's beyond brilliant.  It's editorials like these that make me purse my lips every time I see some silly, extravagant editorial - like Naomi Campbell in haute couture in Africa, how unnecessary is that?! - because a great idea doesn't always require an obscene budget.

From top to bottom:  Balenciaga, Miu Miu, and Gareth Pugh.  Love.

YOU KNOW HOW I DO

I wasn't planning on making anything for halloween, but seeing as I have a class devoted to swimwear this semester it became inevitable that some spandex creation would crossover into costume territory.  I made this G.I. Jane one piece for my first assignment.  I also threw together a single leg of patchwork leggings with some leftover fabric, and of course, I tried them on together.  I liked the look so much I finished the leggings with a mid thigh length leg on the other side later this afternoon.

WHAT I LIVE FOR

I don't think I will ever be in love with fashion as much as I was in late 2006 and early 2007.  Maybe everything was more magic because I was younger, maybe it seems better because it's sentimental.. but the seasons surrounding that period of time will always be very special to me - especially Balenciaga.  Of course, Balenciaga.  I eat, sleep and breathe Ghesquiere.  Below is Coco Rocha in Balenciaga's S/S 07 ad campaign.  It's absolutely brilliant; she's a woman beamed down from a spaceship into the heart of suburbia.  At least that's how I've always seen it.  There's little more I want from an ad, or editorial even, than a clear view of beautiful, well styled looks with good photography and a fitting environment.

GET OUTTA MY WAY

I've been very busy with school lately.  So busy that I hardly even have the time - or more importantly the energy - to fulfill my monthly boy quota.  Half kidding, but it's pretty upsetting.  I finish working in the studio late every night and want nothing more than an empty bed or a 40oz of bud.

I still adore the S/S 08 Lanvin dresses (below).  The ad campaigns for Lanvin that season are among the best I have ever seen.  Un fucking real.  A beautiful collection never loses its magic.  By the way, the rumors about Alber replacing Karl at Chanel always upset me because I fervently believe Lanvin has, under Alber's direction, become a stronger label than Chanel.  Karl is an extremely talented designer, but he is truly spread too thin between all of the lines he designs to create a single, strong collection.  And he might just take his success for granted after such a long career?  It's understandable, but I'm team Elbaz 100%.

"Androgynous Pratt student documents his outfits that run the gamut from everyday college kid to flamboyant club kid. Anyone who throws on a pair of Balenciaga platforms or 9" fetish stilettos to cheer himself up is pretty awesome and entertaining in our opinion!"

TOPSHOP INSIDE-OUT BLOG
"Dressing up is what William loves to do most. This young designer from New York doesn’t dress for fashion but just to have fun and enjoy himself like the big kid that he is. Both adorned as a man and woman, his blog isn’t your common “check-out-my-outfit” type blog. It’s a journey into NYC’s crazy nightlife with party outfits straight from the young creative/transvestite scene. Juggling Timberland homemade platforms, tie-dye t-shirts, camo baggy trousers and an orange furry jacket, his looks are absolutely bonkers-awesom, leaving us wanting more everytime. We strongly recommend that you check out his collection too . Made from Japanese anime babe-printed fabric, it’s pretty darn cool."

LYNN & HORST
"I strongly believe in the comeback of Manga and will further explore its use in contemporary art and fashion. Most probably, 'sexualization' will become a core motif. In the first instance, I'd like to draw your attention to the reanimation of Anime by Dripping Lazers."
